MOOK YAN JONG One of the most unique practices within the Wing Chun Kuen system are the training sessions found within the wooden dummy routines. There are ten sections practiced in most Wing Chun schools in Hawaii. Through diligent practice on the wooden man, students refine their angles and ranges with various hand-leg combinations. The wooden man also allows students to safely apply more striking power to techniques that would otherwise injure a human partner. The many hand and leg combinations on the wooden dummy are performed with a triangle footwork pattern. As the student moves side-to-side as well as in and out against the wooden man, many short pushes, pulls, strikes, and kicks are cohesively combined. Although it usually takes over a year to build real fluidity in all the wooden man sections, it will take an entire lifetime to refine and make the sections truly useful. |
