INTERMEDIATE PROGRAM

(Students with 5-10 Months of Experience)

Overview: Intermediate students practice at least twice-a-week for a further six (sometimes nine) months beyond the basic program. Intermediate level practitioners build upon and expand on their earlier foundational skills. Students at this level generate and link close and long range abilities. Intermediate practitioners will need to practice with a partner constantly to refine their timing and angles of interception. Having one or more partners is very important in developing skill diversity. Again, all new techniques are introduced at walking speed before moving quicker. The following is a list of teaching/learning content for this level.

a. Pivoting and Push-Step footwork are added to the basic pinched knee stance

b. The second Wing Chun Hand Set "Chum Kiu" - this set contains a range techniques for the student to develop the correct timing, efficient angles, and the right balance of force. Students and their partners practice rotating stances and short steps with quick hand combinations techniques.

c. Free hand techniques are expanded from twelve to twenty "Yee Sup San Sik" - a series of short ranged striking, jamming, and blocking techniques with dynamic footwork. Students at this level begin to step at (not away from) attackers with intercepting techniques.

d. Double arm sticky hand ( Chi Sau - "Poon Sau and louk Sau ") is a series of close ranged, touch attacking nd defending actions performed with a partner.

e. Students progressing well with all the above skill areas can be introduced to wooden man techniques in their ninth or tenth month
